About Soft9
Soft9 catalogs more than 28,000 Android phones — every device that ships through Google Play, including the regional and carrier variants most spec sites never bother to list.
Why we built this
Existing phone-spec sites are built for one shopper looking up one phone they already have a name for. That works for a Galaxy S23 or a Pixel 8. It falls apart the moment you're looking at a carrier-branded variant ("Why does my SC-51D have specs nobody documents?"), an obscure regional model, or a Latin American budget device that doesn't get reviewed in English.
The Google Play Console catalog has all of it. We turned it into a public, searchable site with the variant detail intact.
Who runs Soft9
Soft9 is published by a two-person editorial team. We're former Android engineers, not professional reviewers — which means we care more about whether your phone will get OS updates than which Instagram filter looks best on its camera.
Marcus Tan — engineering & data pipeline. Wrote the protobuf converter that turns Play Console blobs into the schema the site reads from. Has owned every Pixel since the Nexus 4.
Editorial input is welcome. If you spotted a mistake, found a missing variant, or want a buying guide written for a market we don't cover yet, tell us.
How we work
- Device data comes from the public Google Play Console device catalog, normalized into a consistent schema and re-indexed on a regular cadence. See methodology for the full pipeline.
- Editorial content — buying guides, comparisons, blog posts — is hand-written. We don't use AI to write spec descriptions or guides. Computed insights ("above-average battery for its release year") are generated from rules over the data, not LLM prose.
- No paid placements. We run AdSense to keep the lights on, and that's it. Nothing on this site is a paid recommendation.
- No sponsored reviews, no affiliate kickbacks. If we ever change that, we'll disclose it on every page that's affected, not bury it in the privacy policy.
What we don't do
- We don't host APK files. The domain name is historical; the site is a device database.
- We don't review camera quality or display calibration — we'd be making it up. Buy from a publisher who actually had the phone in their hands for a week.
- We don't track you across other sites. The cookies we set are AdSense's and Google Analytics' — see privacy for the full breakdown.
